New privacy law

  • 10 October 2017

From 25 May 2018, public- and private-sector organisations will have to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is replacing the data protection directive. The GDPR enforces stricter rules and requirements than the current directive. For example, it strengthens citizens’ rights and places more responsibility on organisations. The GDPR will force companies to take action; it represents a new framework governing how an organisation gathers, uses and processes or handles personal information – e.g. customer data such as name, address, order history, payment details, customer loyalty cards and e-newsletters. The processing and handling of employee data will also be covered by the new law.
