Estrategy works on transparency

  • 13 November 2018

The consumer's need to know more about the source and authenticity of the products he eats and drinks leads to a demand for an enormous amount of data: from the manufacturer to his supplier as well as to the retail/consumer and vice versa. Estrategy developed the Foodtrack app as a response to this demand.

The consumer wants to know everything there is to know about the products he consumes: what and how was it grown (sustainable, organic?), how was it transported, how long has it been on the shelves? He also wants to be able to trust that the information he gets is accurate. Transparency in the chain and authenticity of the product (such as growing method, origin, processing, transport) are becoming increasingly important.

However, there is no online or social media tool that can be used to give insight into this data; neither for the chain (B2B) nor for the consumers (C2B, B2C). There is also no comprehensive blockchain system yet in the Netherlands which explicitly focuses on transparency in the integral food chain.

That is why Estrategy developed the ‘Foodtrack’ app. With this application, it is possible to store all data in such a way that is not only traceable but also made available. The app uses a decentralised collection of data which is interconnected within the chain, which can be continuously supplemented and accessed (online) at all time.

In collaboration with interested chain partners, Estrategy will carry out a feasibility project around the theme ‘traceability in the food chain: data into and data out of the blockchain’. The objective of this project is the introduction of a blockchain system with relevant and transparent data for various products in the food chain, from manufacturer to consumer and vice versa. With this app, Estrategy hopes to contribute to a future-proof food chain. It also wants to prepare and include the food industry with regard to the possibilities that blockchain technology can offer, and demonstrate its opportunities for the business.
